Native namea Ernest \Beyd .was charged with, having assaulted a Native lady mam 3d Rihi Tauria, ait Paptawai. Mr Oolemian. Phillips appeared • for infartaant, and Mr G. H. Ouleo for the defendant. The informant, in evidence, that the sth December defendant became annoyed at her daughter singing a. well-known refrajn., and, chasing both wdtnessi and. her daughter into the house, he sitruck them both wth his fist, causing a large bruise under witness' chin.
Mia and Rohi Tauria gave corrobkurative evidence. The defence was a denial of the fact that Mrs Tauria had been struck, while it was uirged that the daughter had simply been ' 'boxed m the ears", for. .aggravating- conduct. Ernest Boyd, derendamt, said that on three occasions laotsi of erose cniel™ ty to animals of his. had been.; matted by or at • the instigation, of complainant. . - iHeke Bovd and Hafro Pax&ta gave ovidence. fci - defendant. Counsel for defendant contended that the liiffaiir was merely a bpu<r®' squabble, and urged that. it would have a demoralising effect on Native l.ilfe in pahs if the Court encouraged such .trivialities being ventilated in/Court.
Has Worship said he was not satisfied that any case had beeni established calling "for any judicial action, and he dismissed the case.
