GOVERNMENT TO TAKE ACTION (Received Last ttsipjht, 9.5 o'clock.) SYDNEY, January 10. A deputation from (the. Labour Council asked the Hon. Mr Beeby, Acting-Premiier, to introduce a Limitation, <xf (Rents Bill, hith a view to alleviating the distress amongst the workers, consequent ujton the high rents.
Tho deputation tendered much information concernimg the difficulties of obtaining houses, and tho extortionate demands of the landlwds. Another plea was the continued influx of immigrants, who have to be reckoned with.
Mr Beeby admitted that the -|iK-s----tion was, one of extreme urgency, and be istated that next '.month the Government would introduce a Bill to onabllie it to erect houses. The only way out of the difficulty was for the State to become a com, petite,r wvth the landloaxls. He regretted that tlie deputation had not ftm-ntehed si practical scheme for limiting rents. If a wtarkablc sdhem© was submitted, the Government would consider it.
