M. DESSELVES RESIGNS

PARIS, January 10. M. Oaillaux, Premier, assured the Senate Committee on his word of honour that, tho newspapers allegations, vvhilo ho was Minister for Finance in M. Moni.s' Cabinet, that he conducted irregular pourparlers with Germany, were unknown to his colleagcs, M. Failtores, or M. Jules Cnmbon. It was untrue that, MM. Clemenceau and Burgeois pressed M. Desselves to sy whether ho was ablo to confirm M. (/aillaux's statement.
M. Desselves said: "I cannot reply, for I owo a double duty to truth and the country's interests." A sensation was enusd by M. Clemeneeau declaring: "You may si.v this to anyone elso; but not to me, because you informed me to the contrary." M. Desselves replied: "You misunderstood me."
At a subsequent private conference between MM. Caillaux and Dcr.selyes, the latter announced his regisf -ation. Tho committer immediately adjournal.
