ELECTION HUMOURS.
Tho recent election, serious though it was in. its consequences, wais not dbvoicl of fbunnorous incidents. "Givis," in the Otago Daily Tames, tells of an Oainaru candidate who was asked whether, if elected, lie would move in the direction of mtoasaires ibeiag taken to deal with the "No Teimerei" nuatter. One imagines that for tllie moment he was flabbergasted, but then he rose to the occasion. "While I am pretty well conversant," he said, "with the Mokau question, tilie details of (the acquisition of tlie other esttite named have not come to my • knowledge; but af the iGovernimont have been, guilty of anything questionable im the 'Ne Temere' estate, I would certainly have something to isay about Kti." The audience aa*o ireported to have received this reply witlh "loud and prolonged applause'" which leaves us wondering whether they knew as little of the matter as ho did.
