THE ILKSTONE AFFAIR THE TOWN SHAKEN. (DRleoeived Last Night, 11.15 o'clock.) LONDON. January 9. Tihe collapse of the gasometer at Ilkeston shook the &,towm like an earthquake. v' The gasometer was flung thirty yards, and the flames leapt nundredis of feet into t3ie air. The occupants of the demolished cottages had miraculous" escapes. Several buildings were burnt. j Debris on the railway caused a > suspension of traffic. It is believed that .the gasometer yielded to a pressure of water, causin £S as to escape and ignite. Tnte explosion burst the water j holder, audi a torrent flooded houses i and factories.
