ATTACKS ON THE COLONIES SEVERELY CRITICISED. (Reoeived Last Night, 10.25 o'clock.) LONDON, January 9. Sir George Heidi, High Commissioner in London for Australia, writing to tflie "Standard," states that Mr E. Cir. JelJicoe's attack on labour is wholly unjustified. He quotes the Hon. A. Sir G. Reid says that, when politically opposed to labour, he was compelled to acknowledge the Labour Party's character, intelligence, and public spirit. He add &: "Some people are so accustomed !to see capital combine to fight in their own interests, that they are unable to recognise a similar development on.the part-of the .workers." 'Sir Wililinm Hall-To<nes, New Zealand High Commissioner, writing to the "Sta/ndard," states that the New Zealand exports are greater per head than those of any other country. Arbitration had saved huudreds of thousands of pounds in the settling of disputes. Much of the labour legislation had' Birbstamtiary improved the workers' conditions.
