The Mayor and his Councillors were assembled at the railway station to .extend a civic welcome to the ViceRegal Party. His Excellency shook hands with each 0i the Councillors an turn. The insult was resented by the local presis, and the public showed its disgust by relegating Mr Murdoch to obscurity/oni the first opportunity. Mir Seddon,. though.-he laughed at the incident, was plainly affected at the insult offered the Crown.
