' At the H.8.-Motor Cycle Club's sports held on the Hastings ' Racecourse on- Boxing Day, tthe Triumphs again practically swept the board. Out of an entry* of 12' machines representing 5 different makes the Tri- ; ump'lis secured ten. firsts, seven seconds, and 4 Itttriirdsi out of a possible eleven events. This performance is all the_ mare remarkable when it is consiflered ■flhat the Triumphs 'had to concede llarge handicaps to machines of equait power and «ix of the ten. first machines were ridden by amateur radem On Saturday, December 30th, Mr J. L. Braithwaite left for Wellington on his Triumph motor cycle to make an attempt oni tihe existing figures of the Wellington to. Napier record—viz., Shrs 35rmin., estabh'shied by Mr H. L. Schaeffer on New Year's Day, 1909, also on a Triumph. In. spite of several attempts on other makes oi machines, this Tecord has- stood to the credit of the Triumph for three yeans. Mr ißrathwaite left the Welliuoton Post Office at 4.20 a.m. on New Year'© Day, and arrived at the Napier Post Office at 10.57 a.m., fca« time being Glurs. 38min., Towerimg the previous record (by nearly two hours. The Triumph ran perfectly from start to finish, the only two stops being to take m~ petrol and oil.
