The Times states that the Commonwealth defence policy has been roi moved from the sphere of partisanship. Immigration should similarly be iemoved. The Federal Government was too leisurely, but those clamouring for Federal co-operation were too fastidious £~:>out the class of emigrants and too economical in the advantages they offqr. Australia must learn that she docs not curry favour'with tho'immigrants by allowing tihem to enter. Nowadays, an empty land is a perpetual temptation to nations whose territory is inconveniently restricted. The Federal Government should provide adequate shipping accommodation, by oharitering '."hips' or giving companies 1 ha requisite guarantees.
