The Rev. A. M. Joihnson, of Sv, Mark's, Wellington, will conduct the sen-ice in St. Matthew's Church, Master ton, to-morrow evening. Mr W. Roni;, of Nelson, is at present a visitor to Masterton. Ensign and Mrs Avenell, of the Masterton corrp-s of the Salvation Army, have been transferred to Inglewood, Tai-analvi, and will leave for their new homo on Wednesday next'. 'They will by succeeded in Masterton by Adjutant and Mrs Hnltquist, of rLastings. A very old and respected resident of Taita, Mr Thomas Minogue, died last, Saturday at the age of seventy-three years. He had resided in the district for forty years. .The death occurred at Matarawa on Thursday of Mr John Waterson, an old and respected resident of the ('istrict.
Mr and Mrs Bunny arrived at "Glenburn" this week after a sixmonths' absence in Europe. A quiet wedding was solemnised a.fc Gisborne on Saturday by the Rev. W. Grant, the. contracting parties' being Mi" W. IT. Philp, of Hastings, and Miss E. J. Toomath, eldest daughtei- of Mi and Mrs W. Toomath, of Gisborne. -.'H l formerly of the Wairarapa.
Mr H. W. Browne, who has been stationed at the branch of ,the Bank of New Zealand for several months past, is resigning from the service of tiiio bank in March, next, with a viow to going on the land.
Mr Gascoyne Beard, 8.A., son of J>r Spencer Beard, of Masterton and Pahiatua, who has been studying at Well Theological College (England),.d-.irin.Lr rtiho pasi. year, with a view to taking Holy Orders, has passed the necessary examination, and at the Advent ordinations ho will be ordained to his tii-sL curacy, at Bus/hey, Hertfordshire, it) the diocese of St. Albans.
