WORKERS' DWELLINGS.
1$ ie understood tfbiat Mr G. B. Syke*S', M.P., has been approached with a vie wito inducing the Government to set aside a piece of land in •Masterton on which to erect worker's' diwelrags. It shouiVd require no 'argument to eonviaiee Mi' Sykes that the time is hot ripe for the adoption of such a course, ttents are lower in Masterton than in most centres, in 'New Zealand'. Houses suitable for workers' dwellings are by no means scarce. There are scores of vacant sections upon, which owners would be glad to build to suit tenants, if the demand existed. .The nuimiber of workers' in permanent occupations .who are in search of homes of their owiij is l comparatively smali, and these could procure homes, if they so desired., by the assistance of Buildiiiß Societies and the Advances to Settlers Office. Jt was never contemplated that the Act would be put into operation in a township like Ma*. terton, where slums and high rents are unknown.
