INTERESTING EXPERIMENTS. ] Mr Jioh'a Y\'ii:igate, of Masiterto-n, j vho is an ardent, enthusiast in the I use of ini.tro-ibacterine for promoting thle growth- of cropsi, has concluded some interesting experiments' with the culture. In order to test the efficiency of the culture, M,r Wingate treated five separate plots of oats in a thoroughly systematic manner, and with most gratifying results. MiGeorge Dagg, of Masterton, measured the plots and carried, out the weighing of the crops after twelve days'' drying. The results- from the five plots' a;rC as follows : No. I.—Treated with Li cwt. basic slag and superphosphate per acre,' not inoeukted with nit.ro bactetrine: ! Yielded ] ton 12cwt. IG-lbs. Cost of man-ure, && per acre. No. 2. Treated with 1-J cwt. superphosphate and moculated with ni-trc-bacteriine: Yielded 2 tons Scwtl 2q ! r,s. 2-lJhs- C<j.st of manure, 9s p t r acne.
No. 3. Treated with mixed super-, phosphate and basic slag, 1J cwt., and inoculated with uitro-bacteriiic: Yielded 2 tons L,3cwt. 2qrs. 2-1 lot.. Cost of manure, i;;s per acre. Xo. 4. Treated with 1£ cwt. basic slag, and inoculated with ni:-o-bacteriine: Yielded 'i tons lOcwt. Cost of ißiimn'e, 9s per acre. No. 5. Inoculated with nitro barter in e loirly: Yielded 2 tons 12cwt. 161bsi. Cost of manure- 9d per acre. Note.—.No. 5 plot: This crop is the fcui'th- in succession with only iid ptM- acre of bacterine.
