THie result of inquiries made indicate® tlrait tibe arrangement hitherto existing between tlhe companies is at' an end but it is not considered that a rates war is likely. . The increase in 'freights is regarded as extiemely moderate considering the charges tlie companies have to meet. MELBOURNE, December 21.
