ALLEGED STREET-BETTING
A PROBATIONER CONSTABLE'S HAUL. (By Telegraph — Press Association.) ■ TiMARU, Last Night. At 'the' Magistrate's' Court on Saturday-, Woni. Jordan (hairdresser and" tobacconist), Qliarles Newman', and George Mason (th<& two, latter formerly bookmakers and warned off race courses) were charged with making bets in Timam on events, -at thte late Novemlber meeting. The chief witness, Edward 1 Travis- O'Briem, a probationer . constable from Cjhristchturch, gave evidence that Jordan made a bet with him in- his sfhbp, Newman in H&ie street, aria Mason in a hotel'. Jordan's case wais adtjourned till Wednesday for the evidence of Smith (saloon assistant), who did not appear when called. A ■ warrant was ordered for his. arrest. Decision in -the other two cases was-: l-eserved till Wednesday.
