ADMITTANCE TO AUSTRALIA DISCUSSED IN FEDERAL HOUSE. (Received Last Night, 9.5 o'clock.) MELBOURNE, December it. The House sat all night discussing the tariff proposal to admit New Zealand wihdte pine undressed for, butter boxes, in sizes not less than five by three-quarters of tan inch, nor exceeding fourteen by one and five-eighths incihes, but not cut to shape, free, a»ii timber undressed out to size for boxmaking at 4s per hundred super, fee*,. The proposal met with strong opposition. It was coiLtgMded that it would seriously injure the box-making trade, and give the butter industry an advantage over fruit. Mr Grpom claimed T tb)at Queensland could supply all the IftittelN-boxes required. Mr Deniton thought a friendly spirit might be showm to New Zealand in this matter apart from tariff considerations. The Ministry considered that Nqw Zealand pine should not be treated differently from other timber. Apparently, however, the Government had' been ' knocked against on two vested interests.

J 'MELBOURNE, December Mr Tudor's compromise for making New Zealand white pine undressed nei dutiable at 6d per hundred super, feet has been adopted. _ lsis allows pine to come in for fruit as well oa butter-boxes.
