MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the Mas- i teuton County Council nvas held on I Tuesday afternoon, there being present, —Ors. A. Murray (in the chair), J. Miihr, A. J. Percy, H. J. Toogood, C. KebbeJl, and R,. F. Beethfam. A fetter was received from the Eketahuna County Council, stating that, the Council hiad a, grant of £SO (£ for £) Ifor straightening some of the bad corners on the Alfredton Road. The Eketahuna Oounity Council were of qpiniion that the Masterton iCbumty should he charged with fits share under the award of the comlmissiioner. Tine, estimate of the cost was' £B9 10s. It was probable that another cornier would he straightened later on.—Cr iMurray stated that hio- and Cr Kebbell had talked the .matter over, and agreed to the contribution, of £ls providing that none of the money was expended: on work under thfc (award. A letter was received from Mr R. ] Pitcaithl'-ey, directing (attention to the condition of the Tawatacla. Road, I the culverts .being Mocked and the road in a vem bad state.— Or Kelbbell stated that only ia limited amount of rates was farilieominig- for this road, which was a difficult /oiie to deal with. He admitted that tlie road was in a bad condition, and required attention. He would like the assistance of the Council on the matter. — Cr Murray stated that there were only two ways out of the difficultyj Either the settlers should borrow money sufficient to raise the road above flood level, or be satisfied witih the expenditure upon.iit of avails ahl'e rates. —It -was. decided that the matter be again left in the hands off Or Kebbell to deal with. A letter was received from. Ma- J. H. Jewitt tin regard to raising, » loan to renew a bridge and do .some metalling on the Rakaunui Road.— Received. ~

In regard to the raising of a loan fdr'tine purpo.se of securing the granlt for the Alfredton-Hiliiemioa (Moroa) Road, Mi- J. Biousbead wrote stating' that the settlers, were'in favour of '{he loam, provided the s rate -was struck over the whole of tHie Alfredton Riding except Mount Baker and Tawaibaia.—Received.''
