Excitement grew very intense when it was made known that Dendv had covered 1110 miles up till 8 a'.m. on Friday night, and it was argued bv well' knowni critics that to complete the 1500 miiles on Saturday's' run of twelve hours would mean that Dendy had to ride 390 miles at am average .speed l of 32 m£ues an hour, a seemingly IwnposisiWlk task, over mountains, tussock roads, and through river hexls and water races.
