The Hon. A. T. Ngata is the only Minister of the Grown at present in Wellington. A London cable announces the death of Sir George' Henry Lewis, the well-known lawyer. Sir William Russell is expected to be back in, New Zealand in time, for tho declaration of the polls next week. The remains of the late Mr A. P. Rawson were interred in the Masterton cemetery yesterday morning, and "those of the late Mr John Catt, senr., yesterday afternoon. In both cases there was a- large and representative funeral cortege. Mr Frank Evans, who has been auctioneer for the Masterton brauch of Messrs Dalgoty cud Co., Ltd., for the past four years, has severed bis connection with that firm to, take up a similar position with another weiiknown local firm of stock and station agents.

Mr J. W. Hill, of the staff of the Wnirarapa Age, who is leaving Masterton to take up an important position on tho Napier Daily Telegraph, was presented with a handsome salad !k>wl by his fellow-employees last evening. The presentation was made, on behalf of the staff, by Mr J. Brown, ser.r., who referred in eulogistic terns to the esteem in which. Mr Hill wj,s held by those he worked with, and wished him every success in his new sphere. Mr Hill suitably responded.

Addressing a meeting in London, a few days ago (writes a London correspondent on Ist November), General Booth made the pathetic confession that his eyesight was now so bad that he could not discern a single person in lus audience, but he was still able to talk to the thousands he could not see. He has just concluded a campaign in Scotland and the North of England, and is about to visit Germany and Denmark. After thaV he hopes to undergo another operation in order that his sight may be restored. At the present time General Booth is negotiating for the transfer of all .pauper orphans.to another laud where they can be -adopted and looked after under the responsibility of the Salvation Armv.
