TARIFF AMENDMENTS.
NEW ZEALAND TIMBER
(Received December 2, 8.5 a.m.)
SYDNEY, December 2. when introducing the tariff amendments Mr Tudor stated that beyond allowing the importation of New Zealand white.pine of certain- sizes free, there would be no alteration in the timber duties. The amendment does, however, raise the tariff on kauri by the deletion, of sub-item B, item 303, v/hieh reads: "New Zealand pine undressed, 6d per 100 superficial feet," and the substitution of an item dealing only with white pine for butter boxes. This throws other New Zealand pine into sub-item D, "timber -undressed 2c Od per hundred feet." Merdhants have raised the prices of New Zealand timbers other than white pine 'half-inch, by Is per hundred superficial feet; white pine fiveeighths and three-quarter white pine, 8d per hundred; and from an inch and' over, 2s per hundred.
