At the conclusion of the Rev. A. T
Thompson's address in Masterttwi lost • night, a member of the audience commenced to reply to some of the arguments put forward. The chairman i (Mr D. McGregor) invited the speaker .to the platform. 'Upon the gentleman reaching tho platform he was greeted with, derisive laughter, but the chairman appealed to the audince to give the man a good hearing. The - latter commenced by stating that 'when, the hotels were open the working man ,was said to spend 10s per week on liquor. This, he said, was just half what was spent under No-License, owing to the extra charge -that was , being made by sly-grog sellers, or ' the cost of travelling to another centre; In' spite of the Chairman's appeal tho speaker was continually in- ■« terrupted by laughter, and he took some "time to make the above statehient. "If," continued the speaker, -' "you are going to do away with the jiquor traffic, wipe it right out of the country, by voting for Dominion prohibition, and not by dosing one hotel for th-3 benefit o F the others."
(Loud applause and cheers.) He thought that there should be only oae> voting poper. The speaker then began asking Mr Thompson if he had visited Italy, German, France, and other countries, and if so, What opinion they gave him. Mr Thompson gave his impressions of France, which were not very good, and was then asked *q explain his impressions of San Francisco. At this stago the Chairman •asked the speaker to close as it was already 10 o'clock. The man thanked ihe audience for listening to him, bowed to the chairman, and iMr Thompson and left the platform.
