ELECTION PETITION
PAHIATUA COUNTY COUNCIL
The petition of Mr J. B. Tait one of the candidates at the recent Pahiatua Gouty Council election for the Mangahao Riding, and of several electors to have till© poll declared void, was heard at the Pahiatua Magistrate's Court by Mr L. G. Keid, S.M.
iMr P. L. Hollings appeared for the petitioners, and Mr G. Harold Smith for the Returning Officer. Mr Hollings, in opening, stated that the validity of the election was disputed by the petition-era on several grounds, mainly that no proper roll was ever prepared and signed, and that certain persons wore allowed to vole without possessing the ' necessary qualification. After hearing the evidence of the
{ Returning Officer and arguments by } counsel, the Magistrate declared the I poll void, and awarded the petitioners I£4 6s costs against the Returning Officer.
