SIR E. GREY'S STATEMENT
DEBATE IN THE LORDS,
(Received Last Night, 10.50 o'clock.)
LONDON, November 29. Lord Courtney, in initiating the dehate in the House of Lords on Sir E. Grey's statement, attacked the Government's policy in Morocco. Lord Morley said the essence of the 1904 agreement was that Britain , would 'have a free hand in the affairs in Egypt, and France would have a free hand in Morocco. It would be,intolerable if Britain should take a share in"the profits and then refuse France hers. There was no reason why Germany's naval expansion should impair the desire for cordial friendship, which was pervading the | whole nation. It was, he said, natural | that Germany should desire, to find territories for her surplus population,.
Lord Lansdowne stated that tho 1904 agreement rendered a great international service. Sir E. Grey's speech- was one of tho most remarkable a Foreign Affairs .Secretary has ever delivered. It echoed what he believed was a general desire for better relations with G.rmany.
