Mr John Hays Hammond, a. weTknown American writer, gives the inside history of the Jameson raid.
The chief agitators, he says, were Americans, who would not act at any time under the British flag. The impositions of President Kriiger Avere such as no Anglo-Saxon could stand for a single minute.
Dr. Jameson entered the reform movement against the wishes of the others.
Kruger played false towards 'the Reform Committee. He gave the men •to understand that if they pleaded, guilty they would merely he fined, instead of which they were condemned to death. Secreta<ry Olney's intervention alone saved the reformers from execution witlijn 24 hours.
