DISTRICT NEWS

[From Our Own Correspondent.]

KAIPAfiORO.

The severe weather of the past few weeks ihas been succeeded by several warm, siuimy days, which have been miudi appreciated by farmers, and in fact by the community in general'.

A rather (heavy 'frost that took •place on Fa-Way night, did considerable damage to potato and, other vegetable crops. This season, owing to liaresi, the windi, and the frost each taking, a turn at gardening, the owaiea-s of the soil are likely to have, little left as a reward for their labours.

The mil'k cheques, for the past month fliiave worked' out in several cases 1 at a.bout eigjht sihil'langs per cow, so results are rather disappointing to dairy farmers. THie milk 6Uipipfly at the t'heese factory, instead of increasing during the past few weeks, ihas- shown a tendency to .decrease. This is> probably owing to the severe weather, and ifihe tests', owing to the Blame, caaise, iha.v© ibeeiu fewer than is usual at this time of the' year. (Mr Sykes, one of the Reform candidates, gave a very interesting poMirtii"call' address, hi the- HalU! on Tuesday Jiiglit. On account of the severity of the weather, the attendance was mot large, but the candidate spoke ifloir an/ hour and a. luallf, a.nd was listened to with l great attention. At telle .coai'riluisten of Biis address jVEr Sykes 'received a< hearty vote of thanks'.
