The Prime Minister left Auckland for New Plymouth yesterday. He returns to Wellington on Wednesday. We take the following from a Home paper:—There is raturally cause^for rejoicing in tlhe family of the Earl and Countess of *Cra'n brook at the birth of a daughter. This event occurred on October 12th, at The Gairnies, Glen-d----mond, Perth. Already there were four sons, the heir, the youthful Lord Medway, havingi been born in 1900: - It was" not many months since the Earl succeeded to the title, on the death of his father. His wife mil always be affectionately remembered in New Zealand as Lady Dorothy Boyle, daughter of a former Governor of New Zealand, the Earl of Glasgow.

Sir Frederick Treves, the eminent British surgeon, will visit New Zealand and Australia in a few months time. He expects to spend about eight months in the colonies, and he 'will visit both the North and South Islands of New Zealand.

A Press Association telegram from Eltliam states that the death occurred in New Plymouth on Friday evening of Mr F. E. Hardy, Registrar of Electors and Deputy-Returning Officer for Egmont, and Secretary of the New Zealand Axemen's Association. Deceased was thirty-eight years of age.
