THIRD CONCERT. The third concert, of the eighth season an. connectnon with the Masterton Orchestra]' Society was given in tfhter Town' Hall last (evening, andj, like its predecessors, iwia.si thoroughly enjoyed by the' large audience, which assembled. The orchestral n.ujnbera were of a higjh order, and were rendered with a .precision.,, harmony aind fidelity to detail which reflected- the utmost credit upon the conductor (Mr J. Clandy) and the indlvidiuaJl players. The overture "Minellh" was pilhyed iai. a. finished manner, and with an expression' which was particularly, good. 'J"he selection "Waltz Dream," was also skiifuthfy executed, as were: also the entr'acte "Sweet Rri-er and) the concluding dJan.se "Qaracteristique." Each} item, in fact, that was given by the orchestra, was. IlcmdJy applauded. The Vocal - nanmlbeirs, of Madame Boggs, of Weltlingtoin, were .wtelli worth the price of admission '(to" hear. Her "Jewell Song" (Bust) revealed the fact that she; possesses a soprano of wide range, which she can modulate at will, land 1 Avllniich is- ctear as crystal, Hct song, "Sing, Sweet Bird'' was alllsp heard to. distinct advantage. For each item Madame Biriggs was given an enthusiastic emcoa-e, responded gracefuSty. Mr 0. G. Hill', of WeMingfton, jpiroved! HiimseJif a flautist of considerable ability, and' ibiis flute siolo was mutch appreciated', Mr Halrry Tain's, who is. always at home with the 'eellib, contributed "Am Morgan" (Mjayr), with orchestral' accompaniment, and received itoud audi we'll merited applause. Th!e duet, "Watchman, What of the Night?" was rendered by. Messrs H. F. iGreen ahd R. J. Young in fine •styfo. Their voices' blteiided weMi, iindi their harmony was." good l , producing an excellent effect. The pieces, die .resistance of .the evening, however, were the- recitalisi of Miss-- Lillian' .Prichiard, tine young lady who was iso successful, at the recent Wek Jl.ington competitions. Her humorous [recital), "The Bride-'s. First Visit, to the Butcher V' shewed that Miss Piridhati-d possesses 'histrionic talent (in a remiarka.ble. degree. Her enunoilation wa.si good, and h'ej l acting of the piece delightful. Tn her dramatic effort, "Lady Macbeth" (Shakespeare) .she (fairly excelled herself, and was thrice reealited. The tragedy of the- piece was powrtrayed in o- manner that wouM have put many a-Shakespearian actor to shame. The encore pieces showed that Miss Prioihard ji«. versatile as woMl as brililtiant <is an elocutionist, 'lihe whole concert was well l above the average, and •was (thoroughly enjoyed by a IT. who had (the pleasure of being present.
