| ROWDY MEETING AT WANGANUI (By Tefegraph—i'less Association.) WANGANUI, Last Night. An extraordinarily lively meeting ' marked by a uhique (incident, was held at Ana.moho la>st evening, when Mr W. J. Maguire, under engagement by the Patea Licensed Victuallers Asso/ ciation, addresed a crowded audience in support of the Trade. Hundreds were unable to gain admision, and from the outset it was apparent that the meeting was largely hostdle. Mr Maguire, who spoke amid a continual fire of interruptions, the strain of which, combined with the great heat of the close might, aJmost overpowered iiim, struggled pluckily on, but when three parts through his ■address, and when the audience seemed to be gettang out of hand, the Rev. George Tregear, a visiting No-Licen.se advocate, -whom Mr Maguire had attacked in vigorous terms, appealed to, the audience to give Mr Maguire a fail* -hearing, intimating that he would reply to the charges made against himself later on. Mr Maguire thanked Mr Tregear for his action, and continued his address, but the interruptions continued and finally, when on the verge of collapse, and acting on Mr Tregear's advice, Mr Maguire was compelled to close the meeting. Mr Tregear then followed with a few minutes vigorous speech in irefutal of the oharges made against him, and afterwards addressed a large crowd outside the hall.
