McGregor jmrr.) stated that he had received tEroughi the post that day from an unknown person a circular covering two resolutions' alleged to have been passed at a meeting of Masterton- bus&n/e £> men to the effect that NoJieense had' been a failure in the town, and convening a meeting of citizens for Thursday evening next. Mr McGregor read the circular, which contained eight 'signatories', and Que, alleged that, five •of these were interested in ''The Trade." He had not received a personal invitation to be present at Thiuirsday'B meeting, but he would Bike to say that if the business men of the town wished to express aw opinion, they should do art openly. If a pubEc meeting of citizens, or tradesmen, were called, he had no doubt !but tefoat a-'-resolution favouring No-license would be carried. Hfa& Rev. R. C. Gray subsequently refeired to the circular, and critically scrutiniised' its contents, expressing the hope that the convenors of the meeting would accept the challenge of DHir McGiregor and throw the meeting open *-o the public.
