Police Inspector Dwyer, of Napier, has received, news of the death of his father, at the age of ninety-nine. Mr R. Gray, of Masterton,. will act at judge of Romney and Lincoln sheep at the Nelson show next weelv. Professor Kirk, of Victoria College!, Wellington, will be a visitor to Masterton to-day. Mr A. T. Spain, the successor to Mr W. F. Carey as manager of the Masterton branch of the Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, was present at the meeting of the Master ton Chamber of Commerce yesterday, and was cordially welcomed by the Chairman. Bishop of Wellington, (the Rt. Rev. T. H. 'Sprott, D.D.) mil visit Masterton to-day. In the afternoon, at 3 o'clock, lie will lay the foundation stone of the new church at Kuripuni, On Sunday he will administer the rite of confirmation, at S. Matthew's Church at 11 o'clock, and at St. Allan's, Taueru, at 3 o'clock; and (he will preach at St. Matthew's Church in tihe evening service. He will leave Masterton oil Monday morning. At the conclusion, of the meeting of the Masterton Chamber of Commerce yesterday, the Chairman (Mr Henderson.) said this was probably the last meeting which would be attended by Mr F. W. Carey, who had been transferred to Hawera. Mr Carey had always been a prominent member of the Chamber, and liad done excellent work as President, and in other capacities. Mr Henderson moved.: "That the Masterton Chamber ; pf Commerce records on its minutes its appreciition of the services rendered to it by Mr F. W. Carey, extending over a long period, as President, Vice-President, and member of the Council." Tie resolution was carried by acclamation, and Mr Carey, in thanking the members for their kindness, said he had no doubt that his successor (Mr Spain) would take an active interest in the affairs of the Chamber. ; ,
