THE ENGLISH TEAM IN AUSTRALIA. MATCH WITH VICTORIA. ENGLAND—6 FOR 247. ANOTHER CENTURY BY FOSTER. (Received Last Night, 7.15 o'clock.) MELBOURNE, November 17. There was perfect weather and a good wicket for the match between the Englishmen and 'Victoria. There was laon. attendance of 6000. P. F. Wanier, S. F. Barnes, G. Gunn, H. Strudwiek and J. Vino were omitted from the English team. J. W. H. T. Douglas acted as captin of the. Englishmen in pLace of Warner, who is in bed, but is recovering. Douglas won the toss from Armstrong, and Hobbs and Kinneir opened to the bowling of Macrow and Laver. Hobbs commenced scoring quickly by clean, crisp, and well-timed cutting. In attempting to drive Matthews, who relieved Macrow, Hobbs mishit to Laver, who made' >a magnificant onehanded catch at point. Rhodes succeeded Hobbs. Runs came slowly, 50' occupying an hour. Kinneir batter for seventy minutes for 19 runs. Rhodes scored 19 in 28 minutes. Sfeventy was up for one wicket at. the 'luncheon, adjournment. The batting was steady and cautious, the attack being keen and the fielding smart. Kinneir gave a chance when at 28 off Macrow to Carkeek behind the wickets. The century occupied 165 Rhodes wias beaten by Laver, getting his leg in front. 'Mead, who: followed, soon lost Kinneir, who batted carefully, scoring mostly on the leg.
