Railway Station: I visited the ground reappointment witJi the assistant railway engineer on 9th inst., and there hn.s iheen an agreement satisfactory to the Council with regard to the position and extent of tlh© Formation 'on that portion of tlie railway reserve which it is proposed to dedicate to the Council. The Department is, however, unable to make the dedication to the Council for a period of three months, as the la-id iln question a® let, and requires that term bf notice to execute a release. Te Wihiti Riding: Weraiti Rlo-ad: A protective top decking ihas been laid on the Taiieru and Wangaehu ibradges for the full width of -till© wlteeA track. Surface repairs- to the branch roads on fthe Wiefaiti estate- have been made. The ire-decking .and repairs to the Waingaiwa. bridge ihave been completed. Wainuiorlu Riding: T.aueru-Brancopeth Road.— I have had carted on to the ground nine 2ft diameter pipes for the purpose of replacing a defective wooden culvert near Te Parae. Repairs are being effected to the Stronvar-Kaiwlhata roald. Timber for the completion of the culverts on the HomewoodHKaiwhata roadflias been taken on to the ground and I purpose expending; the balance of the grant in extending the iftorma-: tion to- Horns Mood. Alfredton Biding: Hutewai Road.— I Qifarve examiined llie bridge and culverts- ion the above road', and find that portions of the structures have been built iotf rimu, and are in consequence an an unsafe state for, traffic/ A 30ft span opposite Mr. Harmond'is- property, as the most defective, and practically requires reconstructing, -with the exception of the .studis. The estimated ; cost is £125. Bridge No. 2, in the same locality, requires am expenditure of about £B. A culvert 2fH> x 2ft x 4oft is in a- state of collapse, and should Ibe replaced forthwith. Aproximate cost £2O. The truss bridge over tlie Tiraumea on tlhe same rood;, twbjich lias a rimu, deck and is showing Biiigns of decay, mjigffit he made tolerably safe 1 for six or eight years, with an additional top deck of 2in. totara at a, cost of £4O. ; A> 66,t sfpan (bridge on the Waihoki Rlo-ad requiires a, 2in. top deck, the main deck being unsound. Allfredton-Weber 'Road.— A 4ft x 4ft culvert in about a 16ft embankment, is in a dilapidated condition, and mlghit nt any time wasih out and seriously interrupt traffic. I think it possible that a tunnel could, with advantage, be substituted for- itlie culvert asi a irea.Uß of water way under the road. The approximate cost of tunnelling is£so. Should the tunnel require lining a further £7O would be necessary. Alfredton-Tlinui Road.— Contract No. 264, 46 chains' of' formation and culverts.
