ADELAIDE, November 11. The first innings of the Englishmen in tho match between the M.C.C. and South Australia, was resumed to-day in glorious weather. There was an attendance of nearly five thousand. The wicket was in perfect order. Warner (112) and Foster (34) the not-out men of the opening day, faced the bowling of Whitty and Crawford. Runs came at the rate of one per minute. Foster began quietly, but when he had settled down ho scored rapidly, with charming wrist strokes. After fifty runs had been scored in an hour, Rees and Stirling took up the bowling, and the rate of scoring increased. Four hundred appeared in 336 minutes. When in his eighties, Foster was missed on three different occasions. At eighty he was missed off a "skier" behind the wicket-keeper, by Rees, off Stirling. At eighty-two he was missed at long-on by Mayne, and .at 87 at square-leg by Downs. Warner put together 151 in 308 minutes, when he was clean bowled by Bliaoknla.il. He played an extremely sound watchful game, and hit twelve fours.—s for 435. When his score reached 99, Foster should have been run out. He got his century in 107 minutes. Crawford and Whitty again resumed bowling, Foster continuing to play a dashing game. When his score had reached 131 he skied Whitty a* midon, but Crawford lost the ball in the sun.
Douglas was bowled at 495, after batting for ,50 minutes. At 508, Foster was bowled. He hit with great wrist power, but was very lucky. He batted 162 minutes. At 525, Woolley was smartly caught at short-leg. Seven runs later, Vine was caught at point, and Strudwiek at mid-off. The innings lasted 463 minutes. Details:—
