Mr T. P. Girdwood, one time of Masterton, has purchased a property at Scarborough, near Pahiatua, with the intention of residing there.
Mr J.- Trezise has resigned the conductorship of the Pahiatua Brass Band, and Mr C. Mills has been elected in his stead.
Messrs Bland Rayner and R. -Gray, i who have been judging at the Canter- I bury Metropolitan Show, returned to I Masterton on Saturday. I
Miss Derry, matron of the South j Wairarapa Hospital, has been compelled, through ill-health, to tender her | resignation. Miss Deri-y has been ! matron of the Hospital for eight and a i half years, and has made many friends who will regret to hear of her illness. Mr E. Eagle, junr., of Belvedere, has been appointed, judge of Jersey cattle at the New Plymouth show.
Mr Coleman Phillips, of Carterton, will judge Holstein-Friesian cattle at the Wangamii show tliis week. Mr William Johnston; of Stratford, has been apponited manager of the Masterton branch of the Bank of Australasia, in suecesison to Mr D. M. Graham.
Word has been received by private letter that Bishop Wallis, who was seriously ill, for some weeks at Marienbad, whither he had been sent for treatment, had sufficiently recovered to return to England with Mrs Wallis in the middle of September. He Mas very much better when the letter was written. Both lie and Mrs Wallis were staying with Colonel and - : Mrs Williams, at Bridehead, where the Bishop was enjoying the complete rest that English doctors had prescribed. l Mr L. Sorpell, son of the Rev S. J. Serpell, lias succeeded in passing the third professional examination for his M.D. degree. ,Seventeen candidates presented themselves for examination, of which five passed. Mr Serpell is to be congratulated in his success. He is now in Masterton on a visit to his parents. (

A well-known resident of Wellingin the person of Mr William Guise, died on Saturday morning, at the age of fifty-three years. A Sydney cable announces the death by drowning of Dr. MurrayWoods, a prominent Sydney medico.
