Messrs G. R. Sykes, H. Williams, H. Dagg, Mrs Williams, and Mrs Beetham, of Masterton., together with Messrs W. C. Buchanan, M.P., and J. Martin (Martinborough), have been elected Vice-Presidents of the New Zealand Poultry Association.
Mi- Rutherford, of Masterton, has !>cen appointed to the executive of the New Zealand Poultry Association.
Mr H.. Mackay, who has been in a private hospital in Wellington for the past six weeks,/ returned to Martinborough on Monday evening, looking and feeling very much improved in> health. * •
Mr W. A. Woodger, the Wellington, athlete, who was one of the 'Australian" team at the Fe tival of Empire returned to New Zealand by the Maheno.
Mr W. Dingle, of H-awcra, who died * on Saturday, was, says the local Star, one of the earliest settlers in this district. Born and brought up in NewPlymouth, he, with his brother Richard, found his way to the new district, of Hawera. about 1876, and they engaged in contracting and farming. LateiY; Mr Dingle removed into Hawera to re-; side and gave some good service to the town as a member of the Borough Council, and was an active member of the A! and P. Society; also he wss one of the leading members of the Bowling Club. Mr Dingle leaves a widow and grown-up family of one son and three daughters.
Major T. W. McDonald, officer commanding Junior Cadets, states that he was very much surprised to read in a Wellington paper that arrangements were being made to present him with; a farewell gift on his leaving for England. The action had been taken, he says, entirely without his knowledge, \ and ho has given instructions that the movement be no further proceeded with.
The Mangaweka Settler announces the death on Saturday of Mrs Sarah Clarke, of Upper Kawhatau, at the great\age of 92 yeaxs. Despite her years she was able to*move about actively to within a few days.ago. The deceased arrived in Wellington on. the 21st November, 1857, with her first \
husband, the late Charles Standtail, who was a paymaster in the British Army. Only two daughters survive— Mrs John Green, Kawhatau, and Mrs John ThowSj of Greatford. Miss G..L. Raynell has been appainted assistant teacher at the Masterton District High School.
Mr J. Georgeson, Inspector of Factories of the Masterton office, leavea to-day for Gisborne, being called away owing to the illness of his mother, who resides there. " Mr Georgeson will be relieved 'by Mr Rapley, of Head Office, Wellington, who is expected to arrive by the noon train to-day. ' .
The sad news was received in Masterton yesterday of the death of Mrs Esther Highton Elliot; wife of Mr J. P. Elliot, formerly in business in Masterton as" a bookseller, which occurred in Melbourne on October 25th last. The late Mrs Elliot, was' wellknown and highly respected in Masterton, where she resided for a number of years.- She was 43 years of age, and leaves a family of five to mourn their loss. ''[
Mr Harry Muller, who recently left Palmerston for Australia, has accepted a position from Mr Allan Hamilton as business manager of the "Beauty and the Barge" Company, at present playing at the Palace Theatre, Sydney. His acceptance of the position has caused Mr. Muller to hand in his' resignation as manager of the Palmerston- Opera House, in which he showed much enterprise And courtesy.
* The death occurred at an early hour yesterday morning of Mr. Joseph Bell, a well-known cordial manufacturer of Palmerston North.

Mr P. Powell has been appointed to succeed Mr C.J. Kent-Johnston as clerk to the Featherston Town Board.
Mr W. F. Massey, Leader of the Opposition, speaks at Eketahuna on Monday evening next, and not; on Tuesday, as.previously arranged. A quiet wedding took place on Wednesday at St. Mark's, Church, "Mangatainoka, the contracting couple being Mr G. O'Meara and Miss Cornforth. The Rev. R. Hermon officiated. -
Mr Alfred Moore, brother of Mr F. T. Moore, of Johnsonville, died at Palmerston North on Wednesday night. The deceased, who was a well-known stock-buyer between Wellington and Palmerston, met with a serious trap accident about two years ago, and never properly recovered from its Offects. He leaves a widow and four children.
