AN APOLOGY.
The apology tendered the Prime Minister by tli© Otaki Mail is. of a. very generous' character. The Mail published something in 1 the report of a political meetin-g which was held to reflect on the integrity of Sir JoseiJi Ward, and the latter promptly sought to vindicate himself. The paper has dione the right and proper thing in .making the amende honourable. The incident is one which iis probably now cttooed. It erves to show, . however, that newspapers must he very careful how they handle Prime Ministers and politicians. it does not do, in these days, to call a spade a spade. It is far better to describe it as a garden implement, or a long-handled 'slitotcJ.
