ANNUAL REPORT. I

The following is 'the annual report of the Wairarapa Amateur Swimming dub : . Tlhfe dub hat* experienced a fairly good year, notwithstanding, that the prize value of 'trophies, for competition was considerably increased, and in, several other instances where it would possibly assist other branches of apont it has been- as generous as possibfe'. Tine Club also arranged to secure a vetry suitable, marquee a/t considerable.aost, which, although it reduces the bank balance, is on, the other hand a.valuable asset. The year ha© been more or less <to a certaini degree an esiperimental one, in-- ' asirouch as the comomittee decided not to canvass the business people of the tiowta for traphltes or donations-, quite ■ a number, (however, responded very willingly,, without ireq-uesit. Youtr Committee considered the . matter caireflilly of allowing the Sports Carnival to aland on .its. own. basis, and to endeavour, if possible, to find out if, with everything proving favourable, .sufficient [funds ' could be collected in gate takings, and nominations, etc., to defray the full cost of r/ivnnang a isnioceisshtl .sports season right through. To this-arrangement there is attached a. considerable amount of risk, as should .the Club experience wet weafher for the Carnival', preventing the attendance of its. patrons or the .public, it ■would mlean. disa«teir financially.

-Your Cbmimittee was again succeasfiul in obtaining Anniversary Day tor tfhle Annual Carnival, and was fortunately favoured with excellent weather and a good attendance. Upwards of forty competitors arrived f,rom Wellington. Clubs, whfoh proved an additional attraction. This year the visitors were very successful in annexing the greater portion of the troph&es. It thus remains for our local swimmers to practice more assiduously, and. they will soon become competitors to.be reckoned with seriously. Ladies' swimming events, were also added to the programme and, brought out some good ■competitors. •

The Annual social was held in the Exchange Buildings on June Ist and trophies won during, the season by the local' competitors were presented by Mr D. OaseiliWg, patron of the Club. Evening .swimming events wieire held, during the season-, but wier© not oomfpetedi for as.ivle should like. Th© puMic (showed their appreciation and attendiekl well. At the beginning or th'e year Mr J. A. MaEwen (resffigjnedl (from tlile position of secretary, much l to the loss of the Cfliib, as his practical knowledge placed Earn, always in. rtfe foreground with regard, to snvam.ming matters generally. Your Cbmimnttee wish to respeo£fu% thank the donors of trophids, ailso the ladies for their willing assistance. Im ooncilusiom it is to he urged that members will rally round. get new! members 1 tr> join, and by a little perseverance, maintain 'it as on© of the leading crabs in the Dominion. Our credit balance i?> -£4 O.
