The Maoawatu A. and P. Association was favoured with beautiful weatiher for the second, day of its twenty-sixth annual ,yhow yesterday. Visitors. cOmanencc-di to aivive on,the grounds early in the day, and 1 tiiere was a continuous stream until well in. .the afternoon, .by wnu-h .time a record .crowdi had awj-cmnled. The grandstand, was taxed to its utmost holding capacity by those iiiter.e-s.tetl in. the ring events, while still larger murabe.ns- of ga.iJy-attire.uj women and their escorts- paraded the grcundia A feature of tJi-e- show was the excellent exhibits cf machinery .by prominent manufacturer's'. The r/.-J.e show's were numerous and varied. Farmer!;, were afforded an opportunity of seeing and! .inspecting the best stock the Donfinion uin produce, and' of watching the \\wk-.of skilled judges. The--.? was a marked ■iiv.jprcvcment in U:e. generalquality of the gftocJc. The .s-eo-ctnry and 'committee had tlie arrangements in perfect order, and. tlie function .was canned on sue- , oesstfully without a hitch. Hisi Excellency the Governoir, accompanied by his aide-de-camp, Captain MdDb-ugaU, and Mr Goring • Johnston-, arrived punctually at 11.30 o'clock, \:v attended by any guard, of honour. He was met outside the A. and P. offices by .the President (Mir A. Conway) and prominent memibers. of the Committee. HKs' ExoeJlency, in aiSressing those present, expressed Iris pleasure at leaving once more been afforded an opportunity of visiting the district. He had a vivid recollect/ion of an enjoyable and instructive experience, at the .Winter Show, and it was. with a feeliimg of pleasure that he looked forward to seeing tQie live stock at thie present exhibition. TMe judges of the different sections expressed themselves, very well pleased with" the high quality, of the exhibits. In-some cases, considerfablie difficulty was experienced: in awarding itßie prizes.. The horses were a paa-.ta.eai la rljy good lot. , CATTLE. Lovelock's Cliff side Laddie was successful! in adding another championship to Ms credit. Moore (Kai Iwi) took tflie I majority of the prizes' for fat cat- ! tie.
CHAMPION BUTTER FAT COMPETITION. The champion; butter fat competition, which was judged- in the morning, a-esn'tod' 1 as- follows: W. L Lovelock's (Aokanteei-e) Lady ■of Gliffside came first with 257pb.s of milk, 3.0 test, 7.7-2-fe butter fat, 25.75 points, milk, 1.93.12 points butter fat, total 218.87. The second prise wenixto A. B. Hakom.be'R (Taranaki) cow, total 211.30. S. R. Lianensteir's- cow was .awarded third, totaS 193.12; W. 1. Lovelock 1 a Princess- van Ofeve came next, total 184.87. Another of S. R. Lancaster's coavsi was planed- fifth. One of A. H. ITafcome's cows was placed sixtih. SHEEP. The most- interesting seoHon to "Wkiitarapa was the Linrolns, in which Mr W. Perry, of "Penimse," was remarkably s wc<?«fvi]. Besides
winning the championskiip for ram, Mr Peary secured no fewer. thifS" fouri first, four second, and one third prize. W. H. Wybourne (Waver 1 ) pejinod the ciliampion ewe, also £.. .- <eral, other prize sbeep. Mr Pen-y was also awarded- rihiai:> pion and reserve champion for Romrney Marsh ram, and took four firsts, besides a number of seconds and l thirds in the same section. The champion ewe was. one owned by R. Taainer. (Longbum). Gray Bros. (MiisJcea-iton) won a secondi prize. There were only two exhibitor's inEnglish Leicesters, S. R. Lancaster | and Nelson Bros. The former took all the fii-sft prizes in many classies without opposition. I Honours in' Border Leicester* were equally divided between Mns J. D. Orniond (Hastings) and Joseph Dowtliiwaite (FordeM). These were the only exhibitors. The only "\vairarapia exhibitor in Shropshire Douns wins W. Rayner (Ma.siter.ton), who took one. third prize. The majority of tihe winning sheep we-ra shown-by W. J. Birchi and G. L. Mhrs-narl, botli of Hastings-, - - .." ■•' A SbuitMown ram of A. J- SibneWigg'S (Opaki) was awaa-dted reserve ch.am,pdon: A large-proportion of the winning sitoek in tbese classes was penned by Effis Bros. (Bulls). W. J. Birch was the only breeds represenitcd in the Down. Longwool section, and T. Kilsby was alone in the farmers' classes. The entries .in the fair sheep competition were few. TV .8. (Piafniergton) took thfe whole of the prizes. ,
