There is a touch of pathos ruin'ling right through the drama, wflnich appeals at once to the emotions. The plot is simpilie, though skilfully woven. Julian Rolfe, who is living on" most affectionate terms .with a newfly wedkledi wife, discovers to his amazement thlat letters he had written to an unscrupulous woman tihree years before his miarriage are employed to inoniniinate hitn on a charge of murdering this womlan'is sfubsiequent lover. The man is arrested, and is awaiting his trial, when his wlife, disguised as a <lemimondaine, extracts a confession from the ad'venturerls that the lover had really suicided. This, results in, tflie acquittal onfrolife, after a. most sensational trial. Mias Mabctf Trevor, who aclted the part of Julian's wife, displayed histrionic tplent of a very marked and versatile order. Her • 'ever audi aiicceasfnL device to entrap a revengeful adventuress aroused the enthusiasm of the audiience to a very high pitdh, and r-ie was> called before the curtain at the end of every act. Miss. Elinor Fclster, "the Woman in the Oase," whose revenge was canned to the exltrcme, gave a Fplendid portrayal., of a mest d.ifPcmlt cJnalva-cttiea-. MiGerald K. Souper, as Julian Rolfe,. was eminently suoceasful, whilst all tfce minor ports were well Eii.stfl.rn-' «d.
