THE OPENING DAY.

, PALMERSTON N., Last Night.

The Mauawatu Spring Show opened to-day in fine, but windy weather. The attendance as usual on the firstday was not large. The judging was confined to the home industries and pig-. There were not numerous entries in the latter section, but the quality was remarkably good, particularly in Berkshires and Yorkshires. Awards were as follows:—Berkshires: Boar, J? H. Sellers (Okaiwa); sow, Porirua Mental Hospital. Yorkshires : Boar, P. J. Small (Kairangi); sow, W. Saunderson (Palmerston); large Yorkshire boar, P. J. Small. Large Black Devons: Boar and sow, E.,Weekes (Awapuni).

Numerous competitions were held during the day.
