MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING.
The usual montiuy meeting ot the Councir was lieid on Saturday, "tlie 23th inst., thetre being present.— Crs. Kumnier chair man), Dagg, Jackson, Pedersen, Perry, afi<? Isakson.
Several communications were received from the Secretary to the J Hospital Board, and the Returning ; Officer, relative to the election, of representatives to the Board. > C. Hardinge, Road Inspector, wrote requesting to be notified as soon as the work in, connection with road grants is started. The Under-Secretary for Public Works notified grants of £l5O for Mangaoronga Road, and £IOO for Bow,en Road; also-sub sidy of £l5O for Barton's Line between Dagg's Road and Dreyer's Rock road.
Or Pedersen reported that be had, as requested at last meeting, examined the bridge on Main . iload : at Hil'las' frontage. Repairs will have to be effected, but he advised that this be left to the new Council to deal with.
Or Isakson reported that lie liad inspected the upper end of Mangatainoka Valley Road, where Mr Christie wished the water tablesi cleaned, etc. This portion of the road is at present used 'by Mr Christie alone, and lie has put a gate across the road. In these circumstances, and in view of more urgent work required on other sections of the road, he could not advise money to be spent just now in effecting what Mr lChristie desires.
The chairman drew attention to the serious effects likely to result if steps are not taken to check the spread of foxglove, and it was resolved to adopt measures to facilitate the effort® of the inspectors in dealing with the pest. • 1 The chairman, having to leave early owing to illness in his family, took the opportunity to express in a few words his pleasure at .being able to congratulate his .brother Councillors on the harmony that had characterised their meetings during their tlwee years' term of office. The Council unanimously voted a bonus, of £2 2s to C. Franzen for'the special, care and ungrudging attention given in carrying out hi.S maintenance contracts on Mauriceyille South and West Roads.
Or Jackson spoke in appreciative termis of the good work do no by the present roadmen and other employes of the Council, and his> remarks were endorsed by other* Councillors. Accounts. Amounting to £ll6 13s 6d were pas feed for payment.
