PURAKAU
"■' . . AE STATSON iN MOURNING.
Passengers by the early train from. Masterton to Wellington yesterday were surprised to find, on reaching; tkhe station recently christeaecL "Purakau" by a perverse Railway Department, that the name hatL been completely obliterated with. tar,, or jwunt. The act was committed, some time'during Monday night, but by whom nobody seems to know. It; will be remembered that a similarcourse was adopted in the Forty-Mile Bush some, years ago. The Department insisted upon naming <a'station "Brownstown," against the - wish of* the settlers. Thisi name was painted? out on several occasions, untjl the Department came tio reason- and" named the station "Htikanui." Ishistofy going to repeat" itself in regard to ''Purakau"?
