COUNTY ELECTIONS.
[To The Editor.l
Sir, — As the County elections are drawing near, I do not think it would be out of place to follow the example* of the Alfredton Riding in calling a meeting of ratepayers and asking candidates to hear their views, as by so doing the ratepayers at times get an inkling of the inner workings of the County. • A little incident that cropped up at the Alfredton meeting was, we are told, that the engineer receives 1-J- per cent on all loans raised within | the County. Previous to this statement being made, ' the ratepayers were in ignorance that such was the case. From -remarks passed at the' meeting.j6n©-would;think that there v was greater need : for a, few pounds spent on the -roads here, than on the northern,tapprpach',.fpr."which, we are ] told tliis riding pays £l2 yearly in special rates, .and now a number of | us would lik*(.to.know jf the expendi-
ture on the northern approach fee doubled, would our liability be increased accordingly ? I am, etc., ALFREDTON RATEPAYER.
