CARTERTON.

The local branch of the Wairarapa Egg Circle last week despatched 280 dozen eggs to the agent in Wellington.

Tlie numerous friends of Mrs F. Kirby, of Martinborough, will regret to hear that she has found it necessary to undergo special treatment in> a private hospital in'Carterton. The Borough staff are at present', engaged placing a concrete kerbing qlong Pemfbi-oke Street. It wiljl give the thoroughfare a more .becoming appearance, in addition to being a needed improvement.

Mr J. E. Warrington, who has been following farming pursuits in the Waihakeke district for some time past, leaves Carterton to-day to take up his residence at/Shannon. Mr Warrington's many friends will wish him good luck in his new locality. A meeting of the'general committee and stewards of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society is to ,be held shortly for the purpose of' discussing suggestions that will add to the betterment, of future shows. As an energetic body the Wairarapa r\ and A. Society ranks among the best. The Rev. B. <S. Hammond, of Australia, is to speak at Carterton on Thursday night next, under the pices of the No-license League. .At & meeting of the. Wairarapa South County Council on Saturday, the following tenders were received for 7(KT yards of spoil at Booth's CreeK, northern boundary, and also, for carting the necessary metal:— W. Hansen, carting spoil, £St6 10s, metal Is 3sd per yard (accepted); G. Saunders Is 4d per yard right through; A. and N. Johnson, Is 6d per yard right through. The Waaraa-apa South County Council on Saturday decided, to give the ranger three months* notice, strong dissatisfaction being expressed at his laxity, there being numbers of straying stock on nearly all the roads. During the month 39 head of cattle and three horses were impounded.
