The Rev. Alfred Hodge, of Masterton, has acoepted the call to the Napier Congregational Church, and will enter upon his new pastorate early next year. '

Chapman will regret to hear" of - tlfe death of his father, Mr Joseph, Chapman, wiiich occurred at. his . residence in • Wellington on Saturday The deceased 1 was seventy-seven years of age. " - v y The death (wxsurred-on Friday of Mrs Paul j wife of the licensee of the Empire Hotel at Hawera. The deceased, with her husband, arrived only a few weeks back from Blenheim. Mr William Laihbie, formerly of this township, but now on the staff of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company at Blenheim, is at present*on a visit to Masterton.
Referring to Mr A. T. Spain, who I is to succeed Mr F. W. Carey as manager of the Masterton branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Feilding Star sftys'"The change will mean a substantial promotion for Mr Spain. He has .'had charge in Feilding for over nine' years, during which time he has been a oapable and popular officer. He will be specially missed in golfing and tennis circles, being an .enthusiastic player- in both these branches of sport, and is also a cricket enthusiast."
A series of transfers and promotions have just been made in connection with the managerial staff of the New ZeaJand Loan arid Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd. . Mr F. W. Carey, of Masterton, has been transferred to Hawera, %o .succeed Mr R. L. Kitts, who' goes to Napier. ,Mr Carey's many friends will be pleased to know that 'his transfer means .promotion. During the six years he has been in charge of the Masterton office, he has displayed a keen interest in all projects making for the advancement of the district, and was last year President of the local Chamber of Commerce. He will carry with him the, best wishes of a large circle of friends for his future' prosperity.' Mr Carey will be succeeded in Masterton by Mr A. T. Spain, of Feilding.

Mi*. Michael Sullivan, an old man who lived .at Kuripuni, died' in .the Masterton Hospital on night. Mr George Watson states that he will not be a candidate for, the Te Whiti Riding of the'Masterton- County if Mr J. C. McKillop is nominated. The many friends of Mr George Simpson, of Te WharaU, will be pleaded to hear that he is progressing satisfactorily, and is now removed from the Masterton. Hospital, where he has been suffering for some time from a serious illness. , :
