MAURICEVILLE WEST.
The partial eclipse of the sun was not seen on account of the overcast evening sky. A strong North West gale raged early last week, accompanied by a thunder and hail storm, and the weather ever siilce has been miserable. In consequence, dairying has somewhat suffered.
The enfluenza and fever patients are now on the way towards recovery, though the fever cases are still isolated.
In connection with the tri-annual County Council election, Mr L. P. Larsen has consented to be nominated.
Preparations are being pushed forward for shearing operations, which commence during November. • Quite a number of young men journey through to Hastwell on Saturday evenings for band practice, under the energetic leadership of Mr E. Larsen. Good progress is ref>orted. A number of /residents have expires-; sed their intention of visiting the Palmerston North show.
