SORDID TRAGEDY.
THE MOTHER DYING
(Received October 26, 9.40 a.m.)
SYDNEY, October 26
The condition of Mrs Covers, who with her daughter (who died) was attacked by a farm labourer named Lawless, is serious. She has a terrible wound on the face.
It is believed that the tragedy w;as the outcome of a supposition on the part of Lawless that Mrs Covers induced the young lady, to whom he had been paying court, to throw him over. Lawless -spent the morning and lunched with the Covers. He and the girl Una were some time practising with the rifle, which the murderer parried. '
Later Lawless visited a friend and gave him £4O and told him to hand it over to his mother if anything happened. After she was shot, Mrs Covers! two children ran two miles, seeking assistance.
