THE PRICE OF COWS.
Writing on the price of cows in England, the London Times says: "The capital now represented in a herd of cows in full profit is so much larger than it was a generation ago that the price of milk is bound to be affected inlc&nlsequence.• In>the early part of this year cows that .a decade ago would have been' considered; well; sold at., £2O were maJcihg iC24 and £25, and somfe : even running close to' £3O. If of things'continues, an incentive will be given to the breeding'and rearing of good milking stock, but it is doubtful if values will decline to the .old level. The keeping of milk records has been of great assistance in the propagati«h of liberal milking strains, and the impi v«1 yielding properties of the animals as the result of selection on tho basis o? these is a point to be kept in mind in comparing present with former prices."
