"STIMULANTS" IN HOSPITALS.

The amount of "stimulants" prescribed at the Auckland Hospital gave the members of the Board some concern at a meeting on Thursday morning. It was reported that between the sth and the 18th of this month 248 ounces of ibrandy (there are about 20 ounces in a bottle), 66 ounces of whisky, fifteen bottles <-f stout, and three ibottles of champagne, had. been consumed ("by the patients). Some of the more abstemious members gasped, and Mr Schofield "thought it an excessive amount." Mr 'Nerheny told of a man who said the stuff had been forced down his throat against his will. The secretary (Mr Jb'enton) explained that the stimulants were only given on a doctor's order. "Not like they do in Waihi, I hope?" queried Mr Ellison, with alarm;. The chairman pointed out that this was a matter for the medical staff, and the Board could not very well interfere.
