CLERKS HANDLING CARGO CONFERENCE TO BE HELD. (Received Last Night, 9.55 o'clock.) SYDNEY, October 24. The steamer Moreaki arrived at one o'clock to-day from Wellington. No wharf labourers turned up to work her cargo. The Company's permanent hands and office clerks commenced on the mails and passengers' luggage, which were quickly got ashore. Tliey then started on <fhe cargo. A difficulty was experienced in handling the horses, of which there are eighty, but the work is proceeding. The labourers presented themsehW for work on the Cycle to-day, but gave no explanation of yesterday's refusal. The work is proceeding. Otherwise the position is unchanged. A mass meeting to consider the position will be held to-night. CONFERENCE IN MELBOURNE. (Received Last Night, 9.55 o'clock.) MELBOURNE, Oceober 24. A conference met and adjourned till to-morrow to enable certain suggestions to be submitted to a meeting of the men. AN IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT. | (Received This Morning, 12.5 o'clock.) | October 24. | An important development in the striko was reached at to-night's mass meeting in the Trades Hall. A huge crowd attended, too many to pack into the hall. It was decided to adjourn till tomorrow afternoon, when they will meet at the basement of , the Town Hall. I , The, deep sea wharf , labourers have announced their intention of stopping | work this afternoon to enable members to attend the meeting, when the * question of extending the strike to all wharf labourers will be discussed The union has received telegrams from the Hon. Mr Hughes and Mr Justice Higgins strongly advising the men to return to work. 1 To-morrow's meeting will be the crisis.
