COUNTRY RACING.
The Racing Commissioners, who did their work as well as they could, no doubt, but did it badly, are trying •to justify their action in withdrawing the totalisator permits from suoh Clubs as Pahiatua. Of this partiou/ar Club they now say:— "Ten miles from Woodville; ibuildings poor and ill-kept; easily accessible to Woodville." This is sairely a very poor reason for withholding a license. Ten miles- from Woodville! Why, there is a meeting nine miles from Master-ton which lias been retained; so that this argument does not hold igood. And, as for the appointments, those of Pahiatua ace quite as good, if not better than those of many other clubs iwhich have not been interfered with. The Pahiatua meeting . was a very suocessful one, and not have been crushed'out of existence. The Government, however, appointed the Commissioners, and it alone is to blame.
